Gear You’ll Need
Some of the tools you may need for your spring cleaning include:
- Warm water and a non-abrasive cleaner
- Disinfecting spray
- Microfiber cloths
- Cotton mop
- Duster
- Vacuum cleaner with attachments
Bathroom
Bathrooms are typically some of the dirtiest places in the house. This is a perfect time to disinfect every surface in the bathroom, including those mats that are so easy to forget about. To get started, throw your bath mats in the washing machine. After that, use your non-abrasive cleaner and microfiber cloths to give all of the mirrors a good shine. Finally, use a vacuum cleaner attachment to get dust and grime off of the ceilings and walls.
Bedroom
Dust is one of the prevailing problems in the bedroom, so make sure you are as thorough as possible when dusting. Take this opportunity to wash all of your linens, including things that don’t get washed often such as duvets, comforters, and shams. Vacuum underneath the bed to get rid of any dirt that has built up over the year.
Exterior
Try to plan your spring cleaning for a day with dry temperate weather; breaking up your checklist with a breath of fresh air and sunshine is a healthy way to stay motivated through your spring cleaning. Use this time to clean the exterior windows, remove any accumulated debris, and inspect the outside of the house for larger issues.
Kitchen
Most of us don’t care for cleaning cabinets, but doing so can give your kitchen a refreshed look; use your microfiber cloth and a non-abrasive cleaner to remove thin layers of grime that build up over time. Another big project in the kitchen is cleaning out the fridge and freezer. This encompasses taking out all of the food, throwing away all of your expired goods, and thoroughly cleaning all interior and exterior surfaces. This is also a good time to de-grease your appliances.
Living Room
Finish off the day with what is usually one of the easiest areas to clean: the living room. Give everything — including electronics — a good dusting, vacuum the ceilings and drapes, and clean the sofa. Don’t forget to use your cloth mop and disinfectant to rid your floors of any sneaky bacteria tracked in with shoes. Once you’ve refreshed your living room, reward yourself with a relaxing nap on your freshly cleaned couch!
